As exciting as ever!

Dear readers, The 13th Techtextil – running from 16 - 18 June 2009 in Frankfurt a. M. (D) – will unveil many innovations. The sideline programme offers an unprecedented diversity of topics. Both Material Vision, focusing on architecture and building, and Avantex, which spotlights innovative clothing textiles, add two important aspects to the spectrum. Techtextil, in Halls 3.0, 3.1 and 4.1, has recorded an increase in exhibitors (see p. 16), bringing the total to 1,160 participants from 42 countries (as of 20 May). This success is quite astounding, given the challenging economic climate, but it is surely down not only to Messe Frankfurt’s noble efforts... more »

A team of scientists from the Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics, Halle (D), has succeeded in making spider silk significantly more break-resistant and ductile through the addition of metals. The Max Planck scientists strengthen the natural material by infiltrating it with metal ions. It may also be possible to strengthen other natural and synthetic fibres in this way.
