Dear readers! ”Every vision needs people who believe in it.” This quote from a report, marking the opening ceremony of the European Capital of Culture ”RUHR.2010” staged in Essen on 9 January 2010, is incredibly inspiring. On the initiative of former Greek Minister of Culture Melina Mercouri, the EU has been electing one or several capitals of culture from its ranks since 1985. In an attempt to do justice to the growing number of members and, above all, the new eastern European additions, the capital of culture title is awarded to an old and a new member state, as well as to a non-EU country... more »
